Today, Converse announced its latest interpretation of the premium Chuck ’70. The sneaker channels the psychedelic creativity of the seventies through the ancient art of Japanese marbling. Originating in China over 2,000 years ago and advanced by Japanese Shinto priests as early as the 12th century, Suminagashi (which literally translates as “ink-floating”) is a creative marbling technique that involves suspending inks or paints in a liquid water surface to produce stunning patterns.
Converse First String is a limited-edition collection that celebrates craftsmanship, authenticity and collaboration at the highest level. The Converse All Star Chuck ’70 Suminagashi sneaker will be released in limited quantities, beginning on Friday, July 1, 2016 at Converse stores, online at Converse.com and at select First String retailers worldwide. The sneakers will retail for a SRP of $90 USD.
