For our “New Era Issue,” we interviewed San Francisco Giant great, Buster Posey!
San Francisco Giants star Buster Posey is one of the top names in the game of baseball today. In his relatively short career, 6 seasons in the pros, Posey has been named MVP in 2012 and Rookie of the Year in 2010. The San Francisco catcher and occasional first basemen, has helped the Giants win 3 championships during his short tenure with the club. Few players in history have accomplished as much, and as quickly, as Buster Posey.
New Era is all about producing quality products, and the brand’s relationship with Posey shows that their commitment to being the best extends to their endorsement partners.
I spoke to Buster about his bond with baseball, his career thus far and his partnership with New Era.
What is your earliest memory in regards to being introduced to the sport of baseball?
My earliest memory is playing t-ball around age 5 and my dad coaching the team.
When it comes to baseball, what do you consider to be your greatest achievement?
Winning 3 World Series Championships.
If you could choose any era of MLB to be a player during, other than your own, what era would you choose?
I would probably choose the era I grew up watching—the mid-90s to the mid-2000s. As a kid—you see baseball in a different perspective. It would be fun to compete against the players I admired growing up.
If you could pick any player from the MLB’s history to play with—who would you choose?
I’d choose Ted Williams because I’d like to see someone hit .400.
Can you talk a little bit about how your relationship with New Era started?
This is my third year working with New Era. They approached my agency, CAA, about working together and it was a great fit from the start.
How would you describe your personal style off the field?
My style is clean cut.
New Era creates the caps you wear on the field. How important is the quality of the cap you wear to your performance?
The quality of your hat is very important. When you’re playing as many games as we do—you don’t want to be uncomfortable and you don’t want to be thinking about your comfort. You want everything to fit naturally to you.
How many New Era caps do you have in your personal collection?
I probably have over 50 New Era caps in my personal collection.
What are some of the most important aspects for you personally when it comes to creating a partnership with a brand like New Era?
It’s really important for the company to be organized, efficient and to have a quality product.
