Events within the world of sports (and outside for that matter) don’t get any bigger than the Super Bowl. What an NFL player does in a Super Bowl game can change how that player is looked at forever. If you succeed, you will be a legend. If you fail, you will definitely be remembered, but not in a way anyone would ever want to be. What happens during a Super Bowl game is FOREVER & EVER. Super Bowl 50 will be played in Santa Clara, California on February 7th, 2016. The Denver Broncos will face off with the Carolina Panthers in the year’s biggest sporting event. All the players involved will have the opportunity to become more than just a football player—they will have the chance to become a NFL legend.
The Carolina Panthers will play in their second Super Bowl on February 7th, 2016 at Levi’s Stadium. The Panthers had a dominant season and they nearly finished the campaign undefeated with a 15-1 record. They went 2-0 in the playoffs by defeating the Seattle Seahawks and then the Arizona Cardinals. Their 17-1 record leading into the Super Bowl is one of the best ever.
The young and enthusiastic quarterback, Cam Newton, leads the Panthers. Newton produced 45 touchdowns during the regular season, a league high (he threw for 35 TDs and ran for another 10). Newton’s game rose to another level in 2015, and this breakout season helped to propel Carolina to the NFL’s biggest game of the year.
Newton gets most of the attention when it comes to the Panthers. It isn’t strange for a quarterback to rule the media spotlight, but there is much more to the Panthers and their success than their electrifying QB. Carolina’s defense is one of the best in the league and their 39 forced turnovers during the regular season is a major reason why the Panthers are playing in Super Bowl 50. 148 points came from those takeaways and that definitely helped Newton and his impressive stats.
Despite Carolina’s dominant D, the focal point of almost every football fan during Super Bowl 50 will be Cam Newton facing off against Peyton Manning. This could be Manning’s final Super Bowl appearance and quite possibly his final game period. This will be Newton’s first Super Bowl and he should have many more chances to appear in future games. Newton has a flamboyant presence on the field and his big personality keeps him in the news. Manning in contrast is far less boisterous but he still receives a lot of attention off the field with his various television commercials. Theses on-field personalities couldn’t be any further apart and their difference in age (Manning is Newton’s senior by 13 years) obviously factors in to their contrasting demeanors.
When Peyton Manning decides to retire from the game of football he will be considered one of the NFL’s best players ever. Cam Newton’s career is just getting started and a win at Super Bowl 50 could help him one day be right up there with Manning as an all-time great.
