The Oakland Raider’s outside linebacker and defensive end, Khalil Mack, is one of the best players in all of the NFL. Mack has only played 2 seasons in the pros but his impact on the league has been much larger. Mack was named to the Pro Bowl team in 2015.

He holds the record for sacks in a game by an Oakland Raider with 5. As of 2015, he had accumulated 153 combined tackles and 19 sacks.

Mack went to high school in Florida and he was primarily a basketball player until his senior year. The defensive star was a standout during his 4-year tenure at College at Buffalo, and was ultimately the 5th pick in the 2014 NFL draft.

I spoke to the Oakland Raider about his football related achievements, the player he wished he could have played with, and his relationship with New Era.

What is your earliest memory in regards to being introduced to the sport of football?

When I was 6 years old I played tackle football at my neighborhood with the local teenagers. I actually did pretty well against them.

What is your greatest athletic achievement?

My greatest achievement has to be reaching the Pro Bowl in my second season and collecting two all pro positions in the same year [Mack is the first player ever to do this].

If you could choose any era of the NFL to be a player in, other than your own, which era would you choose?

I would love to play football during the era of the leather helmets. I would want to see the difference in how the game was played back then.

If you could pick any player from the NFL’s history to play with—who would you choose?

I would choose to play with Ray Lewis. I didn’t watch too much football growing up but I watched him. Lewis led, and willed, his team to championships.

If you weren’t a professional football player what do you think you would be doing with your life right now?

I would be a physical therapist for a professional team.

Can you talk a little bit about your relationship with New Era?

Our relationship started when I was at UB (University at Buffalo). New Era is a Buffalo based company and they have contributed to UB’s athletics program in major ways.

What are some of the most important aspects for you personally when it comes to creating a partnership with a brand like New Era?

Chemistry. The ability to work with a brand easily and without having to force anything. It works with New Era because I love their products.

How many New Era caps do you own?

I have over 70 hats spread out between my home in Florida and my home in Oakland.

How would you describe your personal style off the field?

My personal style is comfortable and bold. I rock it confidently!
