This article appears in our “Made By You” special edition issue—created in partnership with Converse.

Kiefer Dixon proudly labels himself a “Jack of all trades.” He has definitely earned the right to call himself that by excelling in a variety of endeavors. He is a photographer that has been shooting officially under the name “Kiefer D Photography” for 3 years now, while also traveling the country as a successful pro longboarder. Dixon amazingly still finds the time to work as a bike messenger in NYC. His long list of interesting occupations has given him a unique view of fashion and creativity.

What kinds of things inspire you?

Things that inspire me are things that are out of the ordinary. Stuff that you don’t see everyday and stuff that makes you think.

In your estimation, what are some important things someone should keep in mind when crafting their own personal style?

The first thing that people should do is stay true to themselves. Don’t follow trends or just copy someone’s style. If your favorite color is green, then rock some green pieces. Which leads to number 2—don’t be afraid of what the crowd thinks about your style. Make your style fit who you are and make sure you feel good in it.

What are your thoughts on the fashion world currently?

I think people are trying to follow trends so bad that they just become drones wearing the same thing. Originality is fading. Some stuff looks cool but everybody is looking the same to me.

How do you incorporate the Converse Chuck Taylor into your personal style?

My favorite style is the classic black and white Chucks. I like wearing those with my blue jeans rolled up a bit and a white V-neck. It’s a sneaker that you can rock with anything and you can add your own personal style to them. You can just grab a pair and go live your life.
