What made you decide to start missjetsetter.com?

It really started with my obsession with food. I started my blog 5 years ago as a hobby. I have always loved traveling and I would research the best places to eat in every city I would travel to. It was just my passion. One time I was eating with my sister in New York and I was taking pictures of my food. She asked me, ‘what do you do with these pictures?’ I said, “I don’t do anything with them really.’ She then encouraged me to start a blog.

Why do you think it’s important for people to make room in their lives for travel?

You can only learn so much from sitting in a classroom or reading a book. A lot of my knowledge and wisdom has come from my travels. I learned so much during my trip to Africa. I don’t remember half the things I learned in school to be honest. Actually being there and experiencing it—that’s how I retain my knowledge. It’s important to get out of your bubble and not be sheltered. Travel has given me great self-awareness and has made me more grounded.

There are probably a lot of people who would love to travel consistently but can’t find the time or resources to do so. What kind of advice would you have for someone who is looking to travel more but may not be able to because of a variety of constraints?

It’s easier said than done—but just do it. You can travel on a budget. I’m always looking for the best flight deals. You don’t have to spend thousands of dollars traveling. You can do it on a budget. You never really hear anyone on their deathbed saying they wished they saved more money. On your deathbed the things that matter most are your memories and life experiences. If travel is something you want to do you just have do it. If you are young you need to do it now. If you don’t have kids or a family to take care of you should do it. Its something you just have to do and be brave enough to do.

If you had to pick one place in the world people had to see before they died, where would it be?

I think Jerusalem is an important place that everyone should visit once in their life. It’s the center hub for all religions in the world. It’s rich in history and it’s just beautiful. I have family there and you feel closer to god when you are in Jerusalem. Everyone should visit Jerusalem before they die.
